train station
A site where passengers regularly board and alight from regional or intercity trains.
A train station is a facility adjoining (or close to) an active regional or intercity railroad line, where passengers regularly board and alight from trains. Rail stations normally include ticket counters, ticket machines, waiting areas, restaurants, newsstands, shops, storage lockers, and other facilities which support rail passengers.
This usage may be applied to a city's central station or to any subsidiary stations or other stations along a regional or intercity line. It is not applied to stations along local tram lines, subway lines, or rapid transit lines.
Both the main city station and smaller intermediate stations are included when they serve active regional or intercity passenger rail. Station size and the number of shops or other passenger amenities do not define this usage.
