Vincom Landmark 81: 2018 Winner

The SKYDB Awards recognize high-rise buildings that unite architectural quality with practical performance, and Vincom Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City was selected as the 2018 SKYDB Awards Winner.

The 461-meter tower is composed as a cluster of slender volumes that step down around a taller central shaft. The arrangement refers to a bundle of bamboo, using a familiar Vietnamese image to organize an exceptionally tall building. Apartments, a hotel and observation floors are stacked above a large retail podium beside the Saigon River.

The stepped profile breaks down the tower's width and creates terraces at several levels. Deep foundations and a heavily reinforced concrete core address the weak ground conditions of the riverfront site. The award recognizes a supertall building whose cultural reference is carried through its massing instead of being applied as surface ornament.
