transporter bridge
A bridge which conveys traffic across its span via gondolas suspended from a high track or cables.
A transporter bridge is a bridge with moving gondolas or platforms transporting traffic across its span like a ferry. The cables or framework generally have a much higher clearance than the approach deck or the moving platforms, so that some part of the span is always open for traffic below.
Traffic rides on the moving gondola or platform rather than crossing on a continuously available roadway at that level. The supporting cables or framework span above the moving carrier.
The high support and lower carrier allow clearance below part of the span. The moving carrier distinguishes the arrangement from a conventional fixed bridge deck.
