Angular measurements are indications of absolute or relative position, direction, alignment, orientation, aperture, shape, or other geometric characteristic in terms of degrees of arc.

The reference can be a fixed direction or another line or surface. An inclination from vertical and an angle between two components therefore describe different geometric relationships.

An angle gives no length by itself. Two structures can lean by the same number of degrees while their tops project different distances because their heights differ.
