chemical plant

A factory producing raw chemical substances through separation or reaction, excluding food, beverage, and fuel refining plants.

A chemical plant is a factory devoted to the manufacture of raw chemical products through separation or chemical reactions. The products of a chemical plant are generally homogeneous substances or combinations thereof; these include soaps and detergents, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and polymers. This usage does not include any kind of food or beverage manufacturing, nor does it include fuel refineries.

Chemical separation and chemical reaction are both included manufacturing routes. The output is generally a homogeneous substance or a combination of such substances.

Food and beverage manufacture and fuel refining retain separate meanings. The involvement of chemical processes alone does not bring those industries into this definition.
