Rental housing is residential space either in an individual house or divided into individually rented apartments which belong to a common owner and are managed together.
If the units in a residential building are rented out by separate individual owners, then the building is classified as residential condominiums. Rental apartments owned by a government are listed as public housing.
Common ownership and management distinguish a rental apartment building from separately owned condominiums offered for rent. An individual rented house also qualifies; multiple units are not required.
