brick

A roof covering with an outer layer of small fired masonry blocks, usually joined by mortar.

Brick roofing is constructed with an outer layer of small masonry units made of baked minerals, usually including quantities of sand or lime, usually joined together by mortar. It is a very uncommon roofing material, but occurs sometimes when small brick structures have pointed or pitched roofs that arise as a continuation of the facade. The brick in this case is usually structural, but can also be a veneer.

The masonry units form the exterior roof surface and may continue the walls into a pitched or pointed top. They can carry structural loads or form a veneer over another support.

Ceramic tile roofing uses roof tiles arranged to overlap or interlock. Brick roofing has the block-and-mortar construction described here, even though both coverings can contain fired mineral materials.
