masonry chimney
A building summit formed by a masonry-enclosed passage for steam, smoke, or other gas.
A masonry chimney is any chimney encased in brick, stone, concrete, or any other architecturally decorative enclosure. Chimney pipes which are not wrapped in this manner do not generally belong to the architecture of a building, and are therefore classified as tip elements.
The passage is enclosed in masonry or another architecturally decorative casing. The enclosure can be concrete as well as brick or stone.
An unwrapped utility chimney pipe is generally a tip element. A chimney's physical height alone does not establish its inclusion in architectural height.
