The total number of automatic inclined transports for shopping carts within a structure.
The number of cart escalators is the total number of individually driven inclined automatic transports for shopping carts or similar objects within the enclosing envelope of a structure. Parallel cart escalators are counted as separate units, whether they are moving in similar or opposite directions. If two cart escalators are separated by a landing before completing one level, they are counted separately.
Each independently driven inclined transport contributes one unit. A parallel pair counts twice regardless of whether the two transports run in the same direction.
A landing that separates two transport units does not combine them into one. Cart escalators are counted separately from moving staircases for people.
