A metropolitan district municipality is a Turkish district municipality within the territory of a metropolitan municipality.
It governs local municipal matters for its district. The metropolitan municipality covers the wider urban territory and is responsible for services and planning that cross district boundaries.
The district municipality and the metropolitan municipality are separate authorities over overlapping territory. This term does not mean a single metropolitan government replacing all lower municipalities.
