observation

A place used primarily as a viewpoint with a vantage over a city, landscape, or activity.

An observation site is a designated point or place for looking out at an interesting view below or beyond. It applies most commonly to observation decks or floors and lookout points, but can also be used for visitor galleries at stock exchanges or similar places.

Observation sites should not be confused with observatories, which are used for technical observation, usually through telescopes.

The view can be of an activity as well as a city or landscape. A visitor gallery overlooking a stock exchange can therefore qualify without being a high outdoor lookout.
