Turkish IBBS-3 code
The five-character code identifying a Turkish province in the statistical regional classification kept by TUIK, matching the European NUTS level 3.
The classification of statistical regional units was adopted in 2002 and is Turkey's implementation of the European NUTS scheme. TUIK, the statistical institute, maintains it.
Five characters: TR followed by three. Level 1 divides the country into 12 regions, TR1 to TR9 and then TRA, TRB and TRC, so the second character is not always a digit. Level 2 adds a digit for 26 sub-regions, level 3 another for the 81 provinces, which correspond one to one with the administrative provinces. Adana is TR621, inside the Adana and Mersin sub-region TR62.
NUTS is reissued every few years and codes can move between versions, so a value is best read alongside the version it came from.
