A cosmetic medicine facility is a clinic, doctor's office, or other place where medical practitioners specialize in cosmetic improvements and repairs to patients' bodies. Procedures in cosmetic medicine range from mitigating the appearances of serious injuries, birth defects, aging effects, and symptoms of illness for reconstructive or appearance-related purposes, to elective cosmetic enhancements to the face, skin, hair, or body shape.
Medical practitioners provide appearance-related procedures. These can address the effects of injury or illness as well as elective changes.
The medical character distinguishes the facility from ordinary beauty or grooming services. A desired cosmetic result does not by itself determine whether a service is medical.
