An ellipsoidal building plan is either oval-shaped or nearly so. It can be fully rounded, or rectangular with two curved sides blending into a continuous perimeter line.

Very often an elliptical building will have notches or points at the narrow ends. It should not have any major angles, although it may be interrupted at points by small indentations.

The overall outline is rounded and elongated, with no major angular corners. A circle is roughly equidistant from its center in every direction; small end points or indentations can remain compatible with the oval outline described here.
