ISO code
An identifier assigned to any object by the International Organization for Standardization.
An ISO code is the string of characters assigned to a place or object by the International Organization for Standardization. It includes especially the ISO country code.
The relevant ISO standard determines what the code identifies and how it is written. Country codes are an included use, but the general definition is not restricted to one country-code format.
The alpha-2, alpha-3, and numeric country codes are distinct representations. A value must be read in its stated code system; its appearance alone does not identify the applicable form.
