tenure division

Areas a use right runs over, such as a hunting, forestry or fishing ground.

A tenure division is a division whose areas are the ground a use right runs over: a hunting ground, a forest range, a fishing water, a grazing right. Ownership and the law governing that use set the boundaries, and a holder exercises the right within them.

Such an area follows the parcels it is composed of and the minimum size the law requires, so it changes when land changes hands or when holdings are combined. It covers only the ground the right applies to, which leaves the built-up parts of a municipality outside it.

A cadastral division records who owns each parcel; a tenure division records where one particular use of the land may be exercised, which is why its boundary can run across several owners and stop short of others.
