A social welfare office is a government office whose purpose is either to manage social welfare programs, or to disburse the benefits of those programs directly to recipients.

Program management and direct delivery of benefits are both included. An administrative office can qualify without serving recipients at a counter, and a disbursement office can qualify without managing the entire program.

The office belongs to government provision of social welfare. A private charitable service has a different organizational role, even when it assists people with similar needs.
