A multi-tenant design is an arrangement or design of space in a building that allows for more than one occupying tenant. This means that the usable space has provisions for shared use (for example a division between common areas and private areas), and is intended to be divided among multiple leases, owners, or rental agreements.

The layout supports more than one independent tenant. Common and private areas can allow those tenants to occupy separate portions while sharing parts of the building.

The intended arrangement is distinct from current occupancy. A space designed for several tenants retains that design when some or all portions are vacant.
