neighborhood
A named part of a settlement recognized as a local place, with customary or official boundaries.
A neighborhood is a named part of a settlement recognized as a local place by residents, an authority, or both.
Its boundary can be customary and approximate or formally maintained for planning and statistics. Neighborhood identity does not by itself create a government, council, or administrative power.
A district is an official territorial subdivision and can carry administrative functions. A neighborhood can coincide with a district, but its defining characteristic is the identity of the place within the settlement.
