Definitions

sandstone quarry

A site where sedimentary rock of compacted sand is extracted from the earth in large blocks.

A sandstone quarry is a place where large blocks of naturally occurring sedimentary rock are cut from the earth, mainly for use in construction. Sandstone is a common material for facades and structural masonry. It is a durable rock but relatively easy to cut. Although very common and unable to take a polish, it is often favored for aesthetic reasons because of its rich color and fine texture.
