A large-scale collider which propels subatomic particles in a high-energy beam for research in physics.

A particle accelerator is an extremely large instrument for research in physics, in which high-energy beams of subatomic particles are propelled through a collider using electromagnetic fields.

The instrument uses electromagnetic fields to accelerate particle beams for physics experiments. The collider setting concerns interactions studied through those high-energy beams.

This usage describes the large research instrument and its facility. It does not describe a public astronomy display or a general scientific exhibition.
