A theater where most or all productions are musical plays with live singing and usually dancing.
A musical theater is a specific type of theater where most or all performances are musical plays (filled with live singing and usually dancing). It consists of a stage, audience seating, and usually an orchestra pit, backstage areas, a lobby & box office, etc.
Most or all performances must be musicals. A general theater that occasionally stages a musical does not meet that predominant-program condition.
The stage and audience seating support the dramatic performance. An orchestra pit and backstage facilities are usual supporting spaces, without requiring the same arrangement in every musical theater.
