second-hand store

A retail shop selling miscellaneous previously owned goods, commonly acquired cheaply, donated, or salvaged.

A second-hand store is a retail space specializing in the sale of miscellaneous items, especially clothing, household goods, and toys, which were previously owned by other people. Unlike a pawnshop, the wares are generally not extremely valuable, but were donated, salvaged, or sold for a very low price by their owners. Many second-hand shops are non-profit, with proceeds going to charity.

Charitable operation is common but is not mandatory. The shop is defined by the miscellaneous previously owned merchandise it resells.

A pawnshop handles goods sold directly or held as loan collateral. An antiques shop instead specializes in items valued for rarity or age.
