indoor sports

An indoor sports hall is an arena, gymnasium, or similar facility with the flexibility to accommodate a wide variety (five or more) of indoor sporting contests. This usage is applied to facilities with spectator facilities, and is distinguished from mixed sports facilities, which are generally used for exercise, training, recreation, or physical education.

The facility accommodates a wide variety of indoor contests, with five or more as the stated threshold. It also provides for spectators, rather than being defined only by an open floor where several activities are possible.

A venue equipped for one particular game can be described by that sports use. This indoor-sports-hall definition concerns the broader contest and spectator function, distinct from mixed exercise, training, recreation, or physical-education space.
