cementitious foam

Thermal and acoustic insulation formed from magnesium oxide cement with air pockets introduced during foaming.

Cementitious foam is a form of insulation composed of magnesium oxide cement with air pockets from the blowing process. The magnesium oxide can be derived from seawater. The material is used for thermal and acoustic insulation and is noncombustible. The foam is fragile and usually requires a protective covering.

The cellular cement body is the insulating material. It is distinct from a plastic foam even though both contain many small gas-filled spaces.

The foam can reduce sound transmission as well as heat flow. A covering protects the fragile cellular material from mechanical damage.
