Mexican state code
The two-digit code identifying a Mexican federal entity in the geostatistical catalog kept by INEGI.
INEGI, the national statistics and geography institute, maintains a single catalog of keys for states, municipalities and localities. The state key is the top of it, covering the 32 federal entities.
Two digits, from 01 Aguascalientes to 32 Zacatecas. The leading zero is part of the key.
It is also the first segment of the Mexican municipio code and of the locality key, so the state a unit belongs to can be read from its own code.
