A barrier used for military or defensive purposes, to secure the inner side from enemy attack.
Fortifications are barriers intended to prevent or mitigate enemy attack against the area on their inner sides. These may be walls, fences, moats, buildings, or other structures. They may form a closed loop or a line.
The barrier protects an area against enemy attack. Its physical form can include a moat or building as well as a wall or fence.
A closed defensive perimeter is one possible arrangement. A linear fortification also qualifies without enclosing an area on every side.
