architectural framework

A building summit formed by an open arrangement of decorative beams, trusses, or poles integral to the architecture.

When the highest architectural element is an open framework of decorative beams, trusses, or poles, the top of the building is described as an architectural framework.

The framework remains open, with its members defining the summit. A single spire has a different form.

An open-framework roof must dominate the entire building top. This top-element definition identifies the highest architectural framework without imposing that whole-roof condition.
