US state GEOID
The two-digit geographic identifier of a US state in Census Bureau products, identical in value to the state FIPS code.
A GEOID is a composition rule rather than a separate code: the Census Bureau builds one by prefixing each parent code to the code of the unit itself. A county GEOID is the state plus the county, a place GEOID the state plus the place.
A state has no parent, so nothing is prefixed and the GEOID is the two-digit state FIPS code unchanged. The two fields carry the same value for every state.
The leading zero is significant, as in every code in this family.
