The manufactured passage channels air or accommodates another utility. Ventilation, heating, and air conditioning are included uses, and passageways for electrical wires and other utilities are also included.

An HVAC fabricator supplies mechanical systems for conditioning the interior. Ductwork provides the routes used by those systems or other utilities, rather than necessarily supplying the equipment that heats, cools, or controls them.
