Swedish locality code
The nine-character code identifying a Swedish statistical settlement area, kept by Statistics Sweden.
Statistics Sweden introduced this code in autumn 2021, replacing separate numbering for urban and small localities that had run out of room. There are roughly 2,000 urban localities and 3,100 small ones, redrawn every three to five years.
Nine characters in four parts. The first four are the municipality number. The fifth is the kind of area: T an urban locality, S a small locality, F a holiday-house area, V a work area, H a retail area. The sixth is B or C, marking whether the place is the municipality's central locality. The last three are a serial starting at 100. Abbekas is 1264TB101, in Skurup 1264.
The municipality number is deliberately frozen at its 2015 value and does not follow later municipal changes, so it must not be read as the current municipality. A locality that spans two municipalities is coded to whichever held the larger share in 2015.
A place that moves between urban and small keeps its serial and only the fifth character changes, which is what makes it possible to follow one place through time. On a merger the code of the most central part survives, and a place that separates again recovers its former code if it had one.
