rural township

A rural township is a self-governing subdivision of a Taiwanese county whose statutory municipal class is rural township.

It has an elected township mayor and representative council. The class covers a territorial local government and can include several settlements and surrounding rural land.

An urban township and a county-administered city occupy the same position in the county structure. Rural township is a legal class, so rural appearance alone does not establish it.
