Dutch woonplaats code

A woonplaats is the named part of municipal territory that an address is written against. The municipality designates it and the land registry keeps the register, so the two bodies have different roles.

Four digits, and no code begins with a zero, unlike the municipality code, which does. There are 2,503 of them.

A woonplaats is not a municipality. One municipality can contain several: Amsterdam the municipality contains Amsterdam the woonplaats and Weesp as well. The two are separate numbering systems and one cannot be derived from the other, which is why the register carries an explicit table linking them.
