fiberglass

Related terms: glass-reinforced plastic

Facade sheets, panels, coatings, or other plastic surfaces heavily reinforced with glass fibers.

A fiberglass facade consists of plastic sheeting, panels, coating, or other surface heavily reinforced with glass fibers. This is almost always a hard form of fiberglass, unlike many types of fiberglass insulation which can be loose fibers.

Glass fibers reinforce the plastic forming the exposed facade. The glass is therefore part of a composite material rather than a separate pane of glass cladding.

The usual hard surface differs from loose-fiber fiberglass insulation. Glass-fiber-reinforced concrete is also distinct because its matrix is cement-based rather than plastic.
