buttressed core
A framing system with a strong central core reinforced by shear walls or other rigid elements radiating from it.

A buttressed core framing system is built around a strong central core, which is further reinforced by shear walls or other rigid elements that radiate out from it, in a manner similar to a tripod though not necessarily three in number.
The radiating elements reinforce the central core. Their connection to it provides the buttressing action rather than simply dividing the surrounding floor space.
The tripod comparison describes how supports can spread from the center. It does not require exactly three walls, wings, or other reinforcing elements.
