cadastral division
Land-register areas holding the parcels, usually the pre-merger village boundaries.
A cadastral division is a division whose areas group the parcels of the land register. A survey authority maintains them, and each parcel belongs to exactly one area, which makes the coverage complete and the boundaries surveyed rather than drawn.
The areas usually go back to the municipalities that existed before they were merged into the present town, so their edges are the old village boundaries. That is why the names often match what residents call the place, while the extent may be larger than what they picture.
The land register, not the municipality, is the authority, which separates this from an administrative division. Where a town never adopted its cadastral areas as a presentation layer, they still cover the ground and remain the only surveyed boundaries below the municipality.
