The angle of an escalator is the number of degrees at which an escalator is inclined relative to a horizontal line. The angle is measured from the lower end of an escalator, so the number is always positive. This field may be applied to a whole structure or area only if all escalators in that area have the same angle of inclination.

The angle of inclination describes an individual installation. For a structure or area containing several escalators, the common value applies only when every installation has the same angle of inclination.

A maximum or average of differing measurements does not express that common value. Replacing an installation with one having a different angle of inclination removes the condition of equality stated above.
