coal storage

Bulk storage of raw coal, a carbon-rich sedimentary rock used mainly for generating electricity and heat.

Coal storage facilities are places for bulk storage of raw coal, a blackish sedimentary rock composed mostly of carbon and formed mainly from ancient deposits of plant matter. It is used mainly as a fuel for generation of electricity and heat.

The site holds coal after extraction and before its later use. It is separate from the mining operation and from the installation that burns the fuel.

Electricity generation and heat production are common destinations. The storage is identified by the raw coal commodity, without requiring an adjoining power plant.
