A parking guidance system is an automatic electronic system which presents updated information to drivers entering a parking area and helps to direct them to available parking spots, in order to ease congestion and save time. Features of these systems vary; they can include simple signals such as a meter indicating the number of free spots, or more advanced guidance systems using lights to direct each driver to the most convenient available spot.
This differs from a full-fledged robotic parking system, which physically moves cars into or out of parking spaces.
The system supplies information while the driver moves the car. A display of available spaces and more detailed directional lights are possible forms of guidance, rather than a requirement that every installation direct each vehicle individually.
