iron sheeting

A roof covering of large iron sheets or slats joined together, excluding small overlapping iron shingles.

Iron sheet roofing is constructed out of large pieces of rolled or cast iron, usually in the form of sheets or slats which are welded, fitted, or nailed to each other. It does not refer to roofing made of small, overlapping iron shingles.

The large iron pieces form the outer roof surface and meet along fitted or fixed joints. The sheet or slat format is part of the definition, independent of the particular joining method.

Metal shingles use small overlapping plates, including iron ones. Steel sheeting has a similar large-panel format but is the separately defined steel covering.
