Definitions

mound

A construction formed by piling loose material such as rocks or earth.

A mound is a structure formed by artificially piling large amounts of loose material, such as rock, earth, or garbage, into a somewhat stable form. It can be any shape which is structurally permitted by the properties of the stacked material. Mounds are often used as graves, often in combination with a monument.

If a mound supports another structure, then the object of greater height should determine which structural form is assigned to it. Any structure with a berm around its base, which rises higher than the berm, should be considered a structure in its own right and not a mound.
