cellulose batts

Flexible insulating sheets or pads made from cellulose fibers, often derived from recycled paper.

Cellulose batts are sheets or pads of plant-derived cellulose fiber, often made from recycled paper or similar material. The fibers form a flexible insulating layer.

The batt or pad holds the fibers together as a shaped piece. Loose cellulose fill has a different physical form even when the underlying fiber material is the same.

Cellulose insulation can contain fire-retardant treatments and other constituents, so it is not necessarily chemically pure cellulose. Its thermal, moisture, and fire behavior depends on the product and conditions; treatment does not make cellulose waterproof or incapable of burning.
