general distinction

A distinction that fits none of the more specific kinds, recorded so the recognition is not lost for want of a category.

A general distinction is the fallback inside the distinction branch. It holds a recognition that is real and documented while no narrower category describes it.

Use it when the recognition names the building as notable but is neither a jury decision nor a certified standard, and no better term exists yet in the catalog.

It is a holding place, not a description. Where enough entries of one kind collect here, they deserve a category of their own and should be moved out of it.
