drydock
A basin where water can be drained to accommodate boats for repair or maintenance.
A drydock is a basin, usually connected to a body of water, which can be flooded to let boats enter and then drained to facilitate maintenance or repair on them.
Flooding provides waterborne access to the basin. Draining then exposes the vessel for work that would be difficult while it remained afloat.
A lock changes the water level to let vessels pass between sections of a waterway. The drydock's draining serves vessel maintenance or repair instead.
