Montenegrin municipality

MONSTAT, the statistical office of Montenegro, publishes the code in its list of settlements under the heading municipality code. There are 25 municipalities.

Five digits, all beginning 20, running from 20010 to 20222 in roughly alphabetical order: Bar 20010, Budva 20036, Andrijevica 20222.

The fixed 20 prefix makes the code look like a postal code, which it is not. Montenegrin postal codes run from 81000 to 85000, so the two ranges do not overlap. Settlements in the same register carry six digits rather than five, which is the quickest way to tell the two apart.
