location number

Location numbers are numerals, or combinations of numbers and letters, which indicate the precise or somewhat precise location of an object, especially with respect to a local numbering system.

The value locates the object within a local numbering or route-reference system. It can contain letters as well as numerals.

A house number identifies a location along a street or within a grid. A kilometer marker identifies position along a measured route; the number is not necessarily a unique global identifier.
