marble quarry

A site where metamorphic carbonate rock is extracted from the earth in large blocks or sheets.

A marble quarry is a place where large blocks of naturally occurring metamorphic recrystallized carbonate rock are cut from the earth, mainly for use in construction. Marble is a luxury material for facades, structural masonry, sculptures, and ornamental paving. It is usually considered a high-grade or luxury material.

The extracted material is metamorphic recrystallized carbonate rock. A commercial stone name alone does not replace that geological description of the quarried marble.

The quarry removes large blocks for later construction or ornamental work. Cutting, carving, or selling marble brought from elsewhere is distinct from extracting it.
