A carpet store is a retail space specializing in the sale of carpets. As opposed to rugs, carpets are continuous floor coverings, often in several pieces, which are bonded to the floor and usually extend over the entire area of a room.

The carpet can consist of several pieces joined into the installed covering. Sale as one unbroken piece is not required.

Rugs are loose single-piece coverings without permanent attachment. That installation distinction separates the two store specialties.
