Window frames made of polyvinyl chloride, including unplasticized PVC, sometimes reinforced with metal.
Vinyl or PVC is a common material for window frames. It is relatively inexpensive, is durable, and requires little maintenance. It is also an excellent insulator, with very low thermal conductivity. However the material is toxic when it burns. Its recycled content varies by product.
Many vinyl window frames are reinforced with metal for added strength.
The PVC forms the window-frame material even where metal reinforcement supplies added strength. The frame material is distinct from the glass fitted into it.
