emergency exits

At least one supplementary exit beyond regular entrances and exits, available for emergencies.

An object has emergency exits when at least one supplementary exit portal is available, beyond those doorways or portals used for regular ingress and egress, which is available for emergencies such as fire or tornado. Emergency exits can sometimes be made available in non-emergency situations or on a regular basis.

Many emergency exits automatically trigger a fire alarm when opened.

The portal supplements the regular circulation exits. Occasional or regular non-emergency use does not exclude it, and an automatic alarm on opening is common rather than required.
